![]() ![]() He’s already looking for the next big opportunity. ![]() We intend to keep growing this business 15-20 percent year on year,” he says. “It will be one of Asia’s largest blade plant in terms of size and production capacity. “We are doing a lot of projects in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, and a few in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan this year.” Apart from these, Inox Wind is building a massive wind turbine complex in Madhya Pradesh. A 2015 Motilal Oswal report on the company notes that its “strong relationship with independent power producers (IPPs) and global technology leaders, coupled with a ready pipeline of project sites and strategically located manufacturing units, have enabled it to benefit from the wind market revival”.ĭevansh is excited about the future given the present government’s focus on renewable energy. So far, analysts have been positive about Inox Wind. “It’s about passion, focus and hard work,” he says. In retrospect, he feels that what helped him achieve this success was his decision to improve cost efficiency, have a lean team, constantly renegotiate the supply chain, and look at anything and everything which spells profitability. “Failing was never an option for me” he says. Not one to be bogged down by challenges, Devansh decided to ride out the storm. There were other teething problems, too, such as getting industry specialists to join the company, acquiring a massive land bank, getting the right technology, executing projects and building a brand in the market. Initially, the name ‘Inox’ worked against him because of its strong branding in the entertainment industry through its multiplex arm, Inox Leisure.“We had to convince them (investors) that we were a technology company with the infrastructure in the heavy duty wind power industry,” says Devansh. Infrastructure was dead, and wind is clearly a part of infrastructure,” he says. But from 2010-2013, there was policy paralysis in the country. One of the biggest challenges he faced was an unanticipated policy shift: In 2012, barely three years after Inox Wind was set up, the then Congress government withdrew key benefits, including a generation-based incentive.“Renewables is something that is driven by policy and political intent. “Some people may say, ‘You are born with a silver spoon, but it is very easy to lose it all in the third generation,” he says. “Inox Wind is set to become the most profitable company in the ($4 billion) Inox Group this fiscal,” he tells Forbes India.ĭevansh believes he cannot afford to fail because of the robust reputation that the Inox Group enjoys. He is confident of its continued success. A strong current order book of 1,200 megawatts (MW) and investor confidence place Inox Wind, and Devansh, in a sweet spot. And in five years, he steered the company onto the path of profitability-a rarity among local wind energy firms. With a corpus of Rs 40 crore borrowed from Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited, he started Inox Wind in 2009, at a time when major players like Suzlon and Bharat Forge were stumbling. But the Inox Group was looking to diversify, and given India’s energy deficit and the global thrust towards cleaner forms of energy, Devansh convinced his family of the power of wind. Neither his father nor his uncle Pavan (chairman and managing director of Inox Air Products) had prior experience in this sector. ![]() When he returned to India from the US in 2007, he shadowed his father Vivek (managing director, Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited) for two years before deciding to enter the renewable energy sector. “We have a market cap of almost a billion-and-a-half dollars,” says Devansh, who, as director of his company, is the youngest family member to hold a position in the chemicals-to-multiplexes Inox Group. His company, Inox Wind, the renewable wind energy solutions provider, raised Rs 1,000 crore and was oversubscribed 18 times. In March 2015, the 28-year-old third-generation scion of Inox Group led one of the biggest initial public offerings (IPOs) that India has seen in the last two years. No one can accuse Devansh Jain of false pride. And I do occasionally battle with running me some DOS oldie, be it with DOSBOX or even dosemu (dosemu2 these days, which even comes with KVM acceleration, yay!). Yet since you mention "people (like me) trying to run old Windows or MS-DOS games on modern PCs with Windows 10" let's talk about practice.Īnd the very first Q will be WHY? Why would do you try it on W10 apart from being a windoze slave knowing nothing but windoze? I for one wouldn't, haven't even had wincrap on my home PC for a long time now. My post was entirely observational, nothing practical attached. That also needs all kinds of tricks and black magic, in the form of DOSBox, ScummVM, VirtualMIDISynth, Munt, dgVoodoo2 etc. Timppu: I personally don't find that any funnier than people (like me) trying to run old Windows or MS-DOS games on modern PCs with Windows 10. It also helps that I don't use our Android tablet almost at all, and am not that interested in playing anything on the tiny screen of my Android phone. some emulated, two player, arcade/console/MS-DOS games on Raspberry Pi 4, simply because that computer just happens to be connected to our big TV where such two-player/split screen games work better.Īt this point I am not interested in trying to run PC games on tablets because I feel the lack of a mouse and keyboard for games that expect them is just not "worth it". I am still setting up so that me and my kids could play e.g. I guess people do it because they want to play their games on devices which they use often, like their tablets etc. The only difference is that I use the command "wine StarCraft.exe" instead of a mere "StarCraft.exe". StarCraft, it didn't need more for me than just copying the StarCraft game files into my Linux box, and running the game with "wine StarCraft.exe", and the game runs just as good as it does on Windows 7 or 10. Not much different from trying to run a Windows game in Linux with WINE. Learning (learning as in getting totally confused) about OSes and architectures at last) I personally don't find that any funnier than people (like me) trying to run old Windows or MS-DOS games on modern PCs with Windows 10. Osm: it's kinda funny (like in schadenfreude-funny) to read thread after thread pop up here or elswhere in which ppl are clumsily trying to get out of their Windows-comfort zone. These days, they even package half their games with the same cross-platform ScummVM. GOG care more about not pirating than worry about on which device in your house you play on. People have also been running GOG DOS games under ScummVM for Android for tablets & Raspberry Pi's too for years with GOG's blessing. You should be fine as long as it's your own device and you aren't uploading it anywhere. Those mini combined Bluetooth keyboard and touchpads can be a good idea too that can eliminate the need for "overlay" on-screen keyboards (and fingers getting in the way of what you're trying to see).Ģ. exe installer itself is generally useless to Android, you'll probably need to install on PC, then copy the installed folder over to a micro-SD memory card / via USB. conf files as some tweaking may be involved, eg, including a disc as an ISO that's "mounted" by DOS as a fake CD drive may be needed for some, or tweaking the default game speed / customizing keyboards / controllers. ![]() It does help if you know how to add games to DOSBox on the PC and understand. Some games will play better on an 8-10" tablet than a small phone screen (eg, small UI elements). How well it "translates" depends on game & screen size. It will obviously depend on the game as they were nearly all designed for keyboard / mouse / "joystick" and not touch-screens but many will technically run. Yes it's technically possible and I've successfully tested that in the past. ![]() ![]() ![]() On January 1, 2014, it was announced that the band would be playing in the 2014 Vans Warped Tour. Knocked Up's finale reverts to fairly conventional cooing at a newborn in swaddling clothes, but up until that point, it makes for a most enjoyable romantic comedy of unpredictable events, both at plot level (in the unexpected declaration of pregnancy that brings the two leads together) and on a scene-by-scene basis (in the spontaneity Apatow fosters in his performers). His gift lies in finding new ways to tell the same old stories: tossing in dirty jokes, plentiful pop-cultural references (Rogen and Rudd's "you know how I know you're gay?" schtick from Virgin here morphs into a homoerotic reclamation of dialogue from Back to the Future: "I'll strap you into my DeLorean and get you up to 88") and moments of gross-out comedy (a prosthetic vagina features as the baby starts crowning). The dramatis personae here include men who won't (or find it hard to) grow up women who are held back from personal fulfilment by a unrelenting insecurity around other women and a married couple (Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd) whose underlying resentment of Ben and Alison's first-flush happiness very nearly results in divorce.įrom his first two films, it's become apparent that Apatow is at heart a traditionalist, interested in the ways men and women interact these days, but he's one forever careful to overwrite the conventional sex comedy's standard-issue scuzziness and cynicism with a pervasive and persuasive sweetness. (I'm guessing Apatow's research must have been an eye-opener.) One night, Ben gets a call out of the blue: it's Alison, and she's pregnant, a situation Ben doesn't take very well - a disbelieving "fuck off" is the precise term deployed - but comes to live with over the subsequent nine months.įrom one shot of Rogen's flabby, spotty, hairy buttocks as observed on the morning after Ben and Alison's first tryst, it's possible to identify Knocked Up as a film with precious few illusions or preconceptions about modern love. It's no surprise to learn the pair part soon after, as a result of irreconciliable life differences: she's an ambitious producer-turned-director for the E! network, while he's a dyed-in-the-wool stoner who can't even get a celebrity porn website up-and-running his idea of an appealing proposition is "I'll show you Meg Ryan's bush". His follow-up Knocked Up plots the circumstances leading up to - and the consequences of - one of the more unlikely hook-ups in recent screen history: that between chubby slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) and eligible, Britney-esque blonde Alison (Katherine Heigl), who retire to the latter's place after a drunken encounter in an L.A.
